Why wear a black blazer over those slacks when you can wear something infinitely more welcoming? A drapey, deluxe cardigan in fine-gauge jersey or merino wool looks just as polished as your other layers, but the soft shoulders and touchable fabrics give the look a feminine slant.
Fuzzy
There are few things more luxe than a white fur layer, and when that layer is a cardigan it opens up a whole new world of fabulous looks. It’s the perfect balance of cuddly and rock n’ roll, so play it up with black biker boots, olive green moto pants and aviator sunglasses.
Chunky
Chunky knit cardigans are made using a wide-gauge knitting needle, leading to large stitches and a voluminous, pillowy texture. In white, you can really see the technical work that goes into making such complicated whorls, so show it off with a monochrome whiteout ensemble, coupling the cardigan with a white shirt dress and contrasting black ankle boots.
Sheer
Just because it’s a sweater doesn’t mean your cardigan has to be a thick monstrosity. On the contrary, playing with transparency in your outer layers can lead to some of the most interesting ensembles. Try a white lace cardigan atop a dark-colored shift dress to really let the needlework shine, or go sporty with a mesh bolero over a neon sports bra.
A white cardigan can give a breath of fresh air to your stuffy dark-colored separates. Just watch out for stains!
