5 makeup hacks we can steal from drag queens
We’ve expressed our complete admiration for drag queens in the past but as Pride Month nears to an end, we thought it was appropriate to take a minute to remind everyone what a fierce and fabulous group of individuals the drag community is made up of. They’ve mastered the art of reinvention and remind us that no matter the alternative, it’s always best to be yourself. In honor of Pride Month and the Queens that inspire us every day, these are five makeup hacks we’ve learned from drag queens.
1. Use hairspray as a setting spray
If your makeup kit is lacking a setting spray, double the life of your hairspray and use it to keep your makeup in place. It might not be the most pleasant smell in the world but it will keep your makeup in place come sweat or shine.
2. Have your makeup wipe create sharp lines
For highly-pigmented eye shadow or dramatic eyeliner, use your everyday makeup removing wipe as an eraser for any makeup residue you want to be removed. Swipe the wipe wherever you want to create a defined line.
3. Strategically apply your contour
Apply a lighter shade of foundation to areas you want to highlight and darker foundation on the perimeter of your face to bring the attention to the center. Use a thin brush to apply foundation that’s two shades darker than your skin to the sides of the bridge of your nose and the tip before blending to define and slim your nose.
4. Cover your lips with foundation before applying lipstick
To amplify the color of your lipstick, remember to apply foundation to your lips when covering the rest of your face. The muted base color will make the color of your lipstick appear more vibrant.
5. Line your tear ducks with white eyeliner
An easy trick to make your eyes appear bigger and brighter is to line your tear ducts with waterproof white eyeliner. This hack will become a personal favorite for even low-key makeup days.
