5 places you’re forgetting to apply sunscreen
While we all know that sun protection is crucial to anti-ageing, there are some spots that, as best we try, we don’t always remember to apply sunscreen. For your future skin health, both aesthetically and to its core, remember to slather some SPF on these five spots before you head out the door.
5 places you're forgetting to apply sunscreen
1. Scalp
It only takes one aggressive sunburn on your middle part to turn you into a summer hat devotee for life. Thankfully, sunscreen science has come a long way since our mothers were forced to apply sunblock on our scalps as children, and you can now buy specially-formulated scalp and hair sunscreen mists.
2. Eyelids & eye area
Just because you’re wearing sunglasses doesn’t mean you can skip out on applying sunscreen to your oh-so-delicate eye area. Skip the spray sunscreen and opt for gentle, stick formulas that are safe for your face.
3. Lips
Just like the rest of the skin on your face, your lips absolutely require a layer of protection before heading out into the sun. Board-certified dermatologist Robert Finney told Allure that skipping out on sunscreen on your lips “is concerning because it has been shown that if you get skin cancer on the lip, it can behave more aggressively than other areas of the body.”
4. Back of your knees
Dr. Julia Carroll, a Toronto-based dermatologist, told Best Health Mag, “the most common place for melanoma on a woman is the back of the legs. Don’t make the mistake of only applying sunscreen to the front of your legs. Be sure to slather a generous amount on the entire leg, front and back.”
5. Hands & feet
Remembering to apply sunscreen to your hands and feet is not only important to avoid sunburn and potential sun-related illnesses, but your hands are also a telltale spot for ageing. Put off mother nature for as long as you can, and remember to include your hands and feet in your SPF routine.
