Curly hair and why you should ditch the Brazilian blowout
There’s something so decadent, so indulgent about not doing your hair. You know what I’m talking about: Getting out of the shower and leaving it to dry by itself. No straighteners, no blowouts, just letting your curly hair be curly.
In addition to the beauty benefits of doing this, curly hair has also been making quite the comeback, with several catwalks boasting models sporting the curly hair look. Still not convinced? This is why you should ditch the Brazilian blowout in favour of a natural ‘do.
REASON #1: It saves time.
You don’t need to worry about making an appointment every 10-12 weeks to get your Brazilian blowout treatment redone. Or make a mid-week stop-off at your blow-dry bar to pep it up between treatments. Or freshening up your styling efforts in the morning. All you need to is towel dry, maybe spritz it with a moisturising/frizz-taming product, and leave it to do its thing.
REASON #2: It saves money.
Again, with no Brazilian blowouts/blow-dry bar sessions to pay for, this means more moolah for you to spend on outfits or that super-nourishing cold press you’re addicted to. You’re also not needing to pay for any smoothing serums, hairspray or moisturising treatments to restore your hair from all of that straightening/blow-drying.
REASON #3: It’s better for your hair.
Embracing your naturally curly hair means that you’re not subjecting your hair to heat as often as you would be if you were to straighten it or get a blowout. Plus, by not getting the proper Brazilian blowout, your not exposing your hair to the harsh chemicals used to semi-permanently straighten your locks.
REASON #4: It’s totes on-trend.
With the Eighties trend a huge component of SS17 and FW17’s runways, in addition to the recent Resort 2018 collections showcasing models with curly hair, the untamed mane look is clearly back, and bigger than ever. And with ethnic diversity in fashion also becoming a significant consideration, there’s a lot more acceptance of natural hairstyles.
REASON #5: Most importantly, it’s empowering.
Lastly, owning your curly hair or wavy hair or does-whatever-it-wants hair is so liberating. It’s bliss not giving two figs whether your baby hairs are sticking out, or whether you’ve got a bit of frizz happening that day. Accepting who you are how you are is such a relieving feeling. And that is worth so much more than the cost of a blowout.
