Beach hair 101: How to use sea salt spray
Dreaming of carefree, sun-kissed beach waves for summer? To mimic the effortlessly tousled locks of your favourite celebs like Gisele Bundchen and Zoe Saldana, you need to try sea salt spray.
What does a sea salt spray do?
As the name suggests, sea salt sprays mimic the enviable beach waves you get after spending a day by the ocean. They add body and texture to the hair and, depending on the formula, help soften and nourish your strands.
How to use sea salt sprays
While you can technically apply a sea salt spray to dry hair, they work best on damp, towel-dried hair. However, for the best results, it’s recommended you skip the shampoo altogether and wet your hair sans-product so that the salt spray can grip more easily.
Apply the sea salt spray to the mid-sections of your hair, and make sure to spray evenly across for uniformed beach waves. After spritzing, start twisting and scrunching your strands much like you would when applying mousse. The more you play with your hair, the more textured it will become.
To dry your hair fully, you can either let it air dry or, if you’re crunched for time, use the lowest setting/the diffuser option on your hairdryer to finish the look. If your scalp is suffering the greasy consequences of avoiding shampoo, you can use dry shampoo to remedy the look and give your hair even more volume.
