Acne scars, or hyperpigmentation are one of our least favourite things ever. They’re a close second to winter and chapped lips.
They’re just so inconvenient! Just when you get your breakouts under control, you now have to worry about these marks that never seem to fade away. The worst. But, the team at Stylight totally has your back.
We’ve put together some options you can use and watch your acne scars fade away in no time. No more piling on makeup and feeling self-conscious over your skin!
1. Moisturizer: Your daily skincare should include moisturizers and ointments that specifically target skincare and discolouration. But in order to get rid of hyperpigmentation, you have to continue to moisturize. Insider tip: try zinc ointment. This is an over-the-counter product and can be applied with a cotton swab and left on overnight.
2. Lemon: The high acid concentrate found in lemons helps lift accumulations of melanin and therefore lightens the skin. The lemon is like a natural bleach and will lighten the outermost layers of your skin, so the spot won’t disappear, but it will shrink considerably. Dab the spots with the juice of a fresh lemon and rinse off after 10-20 minutes.
3. Apple Cider Vinegar: Mix equal parts apple cider vinegar and water and use as a toner. This natural tonic improves complexion and makes dull skin clearer and more vibrant.
4. Facial Scrubs: Facial scrubs are a great way to regenerate the skin and get rid of dead skin cells. It also stimulates the skin to regenerate new cells which certainly helps with hyperpigmentation.
5. Avoid The Sun: In order to prevent existing hyperpigmentation from becoming stronger, you should avoid direct sunlight and tanning beds. If you must be in the sun for some reason, apply lots of sunscreen and make sure you’re not in direct sunlight for too long.
6. St. John’s Wort Oil: This is a secret weapon for troubled skin due to its antibacterial properties. If a pimple is super red, apply a tiny bit of this oil twice a day. This will make the pimple disappear, which means no hyperpigmentation!
