What Would Our Favorite Oscar Nominated Characters Wear On The Red Carpet?
With the Oscars mere hours away, we are all cumulatively holding our breath in anticipation of seeing which of our favorite films will take home the gold, and, perhaps even more so, what our beloved starlets will wear. As self-confessed addicts of the slew of Best and Worst dressed listicles that are bound to flood the fashion news cycle next week, we’ve already started our office-wide pool to guess who will wear what. But it was over a discussion of designer contracts and the evolution of red carpet style that we found ourselves wondering, not just about what the actresses themselves might wear, but also the characters they played - what would they wear to the Oscars?
From the romantic silhouettes of the ‘20s to intergalactic outfits, this year’s larger than life female protagonists had larger than life style too. Click through our gallery to see the gowns we think these leading ladies might wear on the red carpet.
Lili Elbe, The Danish Girl
While we are sure that Eddie Redmayne in his usual snug suit will be amongst the sartorial highlights on Sunday night’s red carpet, we’d love to see him take one more spin as his character Lili Elbe. Knowing that her rusty brown hair and red lips pop against emerald green velvets, this couture Valentino gown would be right up her alley.
Furiosa, Mad Max
Nicholas K, Gareth Pugh, Haider Ackermann….There were a plenty of designers that came to mind who either have current dresses or an archival collection that captures the post-apocalyptic fashion seen in Mad Max. But we think this female powerhouse might just steal Vera Wang’s black harness top and strapped on skirt straight from the Fall 2016 runway.
Rey, Star Wars: The Force Awakens
Fashions long love affair with Star Wars was reignited this year with The Force Awakens, thanks in large part to the series newest heroine, Rey, and her minimalist-meets-otherworldy style. And while we know that the actress playing Ray, Daisy Ridley, is herself a style Jedhi, we can’t help but think Rey, with her trademark three bun updo, would rule the red carpet in this Yiqing Yin gown.
Daisy Domergue, The Hateful Eight
Fur has been a defining trend in recent seasons, which gave us plenty to choose from for Daisy Domergue whose fur hat and coat spurred our own pelt purchases this past winter. Would she wear Libertine’s fur fake nails? Or maybe Yiqing Yin full on fur gown? Maybe. But when we laid eyes on this gold gown and fur hat and gloves combo the rebellious contrast seemed perfect for this lady outlaw.
