Our Favourite Music Style Muses, From Beyoncé To Rihanna
We’ve all got our favourites. You know; the glamourpuss diva, the rock ’n’ roll chick, the impossibly cool cult icon. With festival season upon us, today’s biggest music stars are up-ing their style efforts, leaving us to lap up their crazy on-stage outfits and enviable off-duty attire. Needless to say we thought it necessary to round up our favourite music style muses. Read on.

Beyoncé
Style mantra: This old thing? I just threw it on…
Wardrobe essentials: Tailored suits, mermaid cut evening gowns, corsets, long sleeve bodysuits, fur coats, baby oil for signature 'wet' look
So much more than a pop princess, Queen Bey is music royalty for a reason. With her 20+ music awards and 53 Grammy nominations, she’s got the award-winning style to match. Beyoncé continues her community service to style by resurrecting bygone trends and making them global phenomena. Case in point: her latest album, Lemonade, whose ‘Formation’ video outfits championed Creole and Victorian designs.
Giving Becky With The Good Hair a run for her money, this ex Destiny’s Child pop star wows with her perma-perfect Hollywood glamour 'dos. Meanwhile pulling off cornrows like the best of them. This is perhaps the most fascinating part about music style muse 'Yoncé: she rocks Bronx bougie as well as she does haute couture.
Rihanna
Style mantra: I’ll try anything once.
Wardrobe essentials: Oversized coats, baseball caps, Puma Fentys, 90s sunglasses, bikinis, hotpants, Manolo Blahnik x Rihanna 9 to 5 boots
Beyoncé may be Queen Bey, but Rihanna is Queen C, for ‘Chameleon.’ The Bajan chanteuse is Gen Y’s Madonna, rivalling the original makeover maestra’s ability to wear practically anything, and look awesome (or ‘dope,’ as RiRi would say). Just when you think she'll zig, she zags.
Passing through phases of pop, rebel, 80s, ghetto-fab, and glamazon, lately the ‘Work’ singer has been creating a neo-goth-meets-90s look for herself, accented by a 90s R&B girl group member haircut and dark lipstick. While it's futile trying to predict what direction Rihanna’s style will take next, we’re simply enjoying the unending source of outfit inspiration.
Dua Lipa
Style mantra: Gimme sparkles, gimme spandex, gimme a parka and I’m good.
Wardrobe essentials: Chokers, chunky tread platform boots, fishnet stockings, sequinned bodysuits, dresses with exaggerated details and embellishments
Go big or go home: Dua Lipa's similar to Tove Lo in the sense that she wears whatever the hell she wants. And most of the time, it's pieces that we wish we had the guts to wear. The social media darling practically documents her #OOTDs on Instagram, showing off her music style muse status with luxe goth, festival glam, and 90s throwback looks.
Fancy a ‘MWAH’ diamanté choker? How about leather chaps or a sheer star print midi dress? ‘Hotter Than Hell' hit-maker Dua owns it every time. Though this Kosovo-born London native is only 19, it seems as though she's already hit her style stride. And we're totally trying to keep up.
Zara Larsson
Style mantra: If it’s colourful and fun, count me in. But if it’s metallic? Even better.
Wardrobe essentials: Ripped jeans, trainers, statement bomber jackets, jumpsuits, chunky ankle boots, false nails, metallic tops, skater skirts
Swedish wunderkind Zara Larsson is our youngest music style muse, but is a favourite for her cute pop-y outfits, always in bright colours. She makes it hard to forget her with metallic bombers and bikers, while sticking to age-appropriate coords and t-shirt-and-shorts combos.
It’s light, it’s fresh, it’s always wearable: Zara’s off-duty style is more girl-next-door than international pop sensation. Then again, you wouldn’t expect a wardrobe any less fun, she’s just enjoying living a lush life.
MØ
Style mantra: I just need to be able to move.
Wardrobe essentials: Crop tops, Nike trainers, adidas Originals tracksuit bottoms, graphic tees, scrunchies, frayed, cropped flare jeans, neon shell jackets
MØ is the Danish music style muse who first pulled at our nostalgic heart strings with a cover of the Spice Girls' 'Say You'll Be There'. A strong proponent of athleisurewear, she's definitely got sports luxe down pat. Why? It's the most comfortable for her high energy performances.
That said she's not one to get stuck in a style rut: MØ's also an experimentalist when it comes to fashion, so a holographic silver circle skirt and white duvet-turned-coat are also residents of her super-cool, super wearable wardrobe.
Tove Lo
Style mantra: Wait, let me take off my shoes, I need to feel grounded.
Wardrobe essentials: Sheer separates, bralets, skin-tight tartan trousers, band tees, acid wash denim, trainers. Septum ring and buzz cut optional
Self described 'Cool Girl' Tove Lo epitomises the word with her don't-give-a-f*ck attitude and poignant song lyrics. Between straddling perspex coffins and staying high to get over an ex boyfriend, the Swedish singer often opts for a sans shoes-and-bra performance outfit comprising a mix of grunge / rock 'n' roll streetwear.
But really, anything goes, because when you're Tove Lo you come as you are.
