Oscars: The battle of velvet suits

Celebrities at the Oscars always leave us in awe of their stunning, luxurious outfits. The event has basically become the “fashion olympics”. While we cheer on our favourite artists and cross our fingers for their success, many of us check in the day after the event for the event’s most outrageous looks.

This year was no different, except the men really stepped up their game and made some serious fashion statements. To say the least, this was no regular suit and tie evening as we saw some bold looks that no one dared to rock before!

Billy Porter broke the internet with his magnificent tuxedo gown by Christian Siriano.  The look included a tailored tuxedo jacket overtop a full-skirted strapless velvet gown. The look challenged Hollywood’s tough dress code and pushed boundaries.

Canadian actor, Stephan James gave off all kinds of spiffy vibes in a custom Etro tuxedo. The fun berry colour looked super sharp and truly showed the rest how it’s done. We’re obsessed with the double-breasted waistcoat and the large bowtie.

Just when we thought Michael B. Jordan couldn’t be any more handsome, he proved us wrong. There’s nothing he doesn’t rock, but here, he absolutely slayed in a navy blue velvet blazer, black pants and black patent leather shoes.

Talk about making a statement! The pink trend is certainly not only reserved for the ladies. Jason Momoa looked super charming in a dusty pink velvet suit. He even paired the look with a scrunchie, just in case he has to put his beautiful locks up! Both the jacket and pants featured black details and were paired with patent leather boots.

Henry, WTF?! We fell in love with you during Crazy Rich Asians and now it feels like it’s happening all over again. Henry looked like an old Hollywood screen idol in his Ralph Lauren velvet tuxedo jacket and grey vest with chain detailing. Can we also talk about the slicked hair?! Perfection.
