How to take care of your designer bag so it lasts forever
After scrimping and saving, have you finally treated yourself to a designer bag? Or maybe you got a pretty new bag for Christmas?Anyone who’s invested in their first (or hundredth) luxury bag knows the importance of taking care of your new designer baby. Make your investment last with these designer bag care tips.
Make your investment bag stand the test of time with these luxury bag care tips.
1. Conditioner Spray
It’s a product you’re likely to look over at checkout but don’t discount the importance of a good conditioner and waterproof spray for your high-end leather products. Before introducing your bag to your soon-to-be envious friends, do your due diligence and apply the appropriate leather care products to protect your luxury bag from the wear and tear of being outside.
2. Protect Your Liquids Â
We’ve all fallen victim to the mess an improperly closed makeup product, reusable coffee cup, or piece of Tupperware can create in your carry-all. Protect your designer bag from spillage mishaps by storing any and all (and we mean all) liquids in a pouch or cosmetics bag within your tote.
3. Store Smart
Forgo your lazy inclinations to toss your bag anywhere that fits in your wardrobe, as storing your bag properly can be one of the most important steps you can take to maintain the newness of your luxury bag. Most designer bags come with their very own dust bag – use it! To keep the shape of the bag, stuff it with tissue paper. If your bag has a chain handle, store the handle within the purse so as not to scratch the surface.

4. Remove Stains ImmediatelyÂ
If you should accidentally stain the interior or exterior of your luxury bag, it’s important to take care of the mishap immediately. If your bag has developed an odour, store your purse with an opened packet of baking soda inside (mind that you don’t spill it) or place dryer sheets in your bag until the smell dissipates. As for stains, food and pen marks can typically be removed with a clean cloth or Magic Eraser, but more severe stains or water stains are best treated with a professional’s help.
5. Rotate Your Bags
As with any of your most-loved garments, rotating your designer bag for others in your collection will aid in its longevity. Although spending a month’s worth of rent on a bag may insinuate you need to use it every single day, keep it in a healthy accessories rotation to curtail its overuse.
