Worst Celebrity Outfits Of 2016 & The Lessons We Learned
The celebrity: Katy Perry
The designer: Prada
The lesson: More is not always more. Sometimes you don’t need to wear the fingerless leather gloves with the gold rose jewellery set, darling. And then top it off with bleached ‘brows + black lipstick. Maybe that’s just us.
The celebrity: Lady Gaga
The designer: Marc Jacobs
The lesson: Invest in a good tailor. It’ll be worth it. Lest you want to end up like Miss Gaga here and have the hem of your fiarrrcccee *wags index finger* gown/trouser leg/coat drag on the ground and get ruined, we advise shelling out the annoying amount of money necessary to have your garments properly taken up.
The celebrity: Kim Kardashian
The designer: Unknown (we tried! The Interwebs has failed us.)
The lesson: Trashy’ is not a trend. Kim Kartrashian show us what not to do with her nouveau riche fur coat, semi-sheer La Perla plunge bra and Million Dollar Baby boxer braids. All that’s missing is some oversized gold hoops and she’s nailed the boughetto brief. Don’t do it, kids!
The celebrity: Rihanna
The designer: Marc Jacobs
The lesson: Always opt for lined garments. We know it’s “cool” to bare your bod under a sheath of sheer fabric, but it makes the whole underwear situation a lot easier when your new favourite dress conveniently possesses a lining. And for the love of God, we don’t care how badass you are, trainers with a formal gown are just, no. Even more so when they’re like Rihanna’s pointed toe mutants.
The celebrity: Chloë Sevingny
The designer: Chanel
The lesson: Dress age-appropriate. Kudos to Sevigny for trying the baby doll trend, but unfortunately this couture toilet doily didn’t serve her well. We know, we know, it’s Chanel, but that doesn’t mean it’s right for her. Soz.
The celebrity: Selena Gomez
The designer: Mugler
The lesson: Stick to flattering cuts. Take Gomez: She’s young, she’s hot, she’s got a bangin’ bod, yet even with her phenom physique she’s at risk of a simultaneous muffin top and gut overhang situation. Moral of the story: Be mindful of where those on-trend slits and cross-body straps sit on your body and assess the risk.
The celebrity: Kristen Stewart
The designer: Chanel
The lesson: Know your dress code. We’re all for pushing the fashion envelope, but at Cannes? This super-casz look is just not appropriate. Chequerboard Vans might’ve been rad when you were 14 and had your experimental Emo phase, but keep them to the skater park.
