How to make your interiors look like Pinterest in 5 easy steps
Even with an eye for fashion, it can still be tricky to work out a signature style for your apartment: that careful mix of furniture, colour schemes and home accessories is not always easy to come by. But don’t worry. We’ve made it simple with a quick 5-point guide to finding a perfectly put-together look for your home.
This may sound strange… but the feeling that you want to associate with your home is extremely important when it comes to finding the right furniture. For instance, if you want relaxation, you’re not exactly going to paint your walls bright red. Make a list with all the features that make a good home in your eyes, to give yourself a rough direction.
2. Pin-point your most-loved items
First, concentrate on all the things in your home that are really important to you. Then try to figure out why. It can be everything from the carpet to the bookshelves to a certain colour scheme. Write down all your favourites directly below your list of ‘feelings’.
Whether on Pinterest or at home on your wall with magazine tears – a moodboard with images that appeal to you is the perfect inspiration. But limit yourself to pictures of rooms which don’t deviate too far from your own in size and shape. You do not want to create a fantasy world, but something achievable for your home.
If you compare your moodboard to the list of your favourite pieces, you’ll probably find parallels. Seeing lots of bright walls, delicate fabrics and clean lines? Then this is your signature style.
Giving your style a name gives it even more clarity. For example, something like ‘Minimal Swedish’ or ‘Parisian Vintage’ helps you create a definite picture in your head.
