Moccasins for women: The Urban Native American Look

The fact that moccasins have such a long history and are given acclaim in old legends only goes to show just how essential they were way back then – and still are today. They are super comfortable to wear and make for an effortless casual look. They are the perfect footwear to wear around town: light and gentle on your feet. Here’s how to get the modern Sacajawea look just right while you show off your moccasins for women around town!

The right moccasins for women

For an authentic look, go for shoes in gorgeous tones of natural brown, gray and black. They don’t necessarily have to be embroidered or decorated with little pearls at the end of the shoelaces (but naturally they can be if you wish!). For walking on tarmac around town it’s best to go for moccasins made from thicker leather or at least with strengthened soles. For city parks and green spaces, they make excellent alternatives to ankle boots.

Pants and skirts

Subtle chinos, slim blue washed-out jeans or straight cut leather skirts made from soft leather in soft tones of brown will hit it off perfectly. To avoid looking a bit too much like Pocahontas, make sure your pants or skirt are clean cut. Less is more. It’s probably best to steer clear of frays, crazy patterns or Inca motifs when wearing your moccasins for women.

Tops

A plain shirt with a V or crew neck is cool and not too in-your-face. A funny t shirt print (you can keep with the Native American theme here if you like) or a breast pocket with colorful detail give your outfit a lovely little highlight. A blouse would be trying too hard but a short jacket in a leather look is a great choice. But make sure to keep it to the same color palette as the rest of the outfit.

Accessories

Just don’t go wearing any feathers, braids or headbands! Here too, everything is very modern and muted. A simple up do works wonders, golden ear cuffs or small hoops are sweet, and a plain, short chain around your neck will also do the trick. A watch makes your outfit a little more dynamic and will suit it much better than eye-catching bracelets.

Only wear moccasins for women in good weather because they are not made for rain. But these shoes just love the sun and your feet won’t get as warm as they do in sneakers, for example.

Moccasins for women are super comfy to wear even without socks.
