The right way to wear necklaces for women

As with most jewelry, the number of looks and styles you can create with necklaces for women are seemingly endless. Not just the style, but also the length of the necklace will determine how and with which outfits it can be worn. From pearl necklaces and gold necklaces to charm necklaces, colliers, and statement necklaces, let Stylight show you how to wear them right!

Colliers

While derived from the French language, the word “collier” can trace its roots back to the Latin word for neck: “collum”. It makes sense, then, that colliers rest on the collar bone and fit tightly around the neck. They’re often made with gemstones or heavier metals and, once on, are expert at maintaining their circular form.

Styles: Colliers should always be worn against bare skin. They go well with: Low-cut tops, shirts with wider necklines, spaghetti strap dresses, and bandeaus.

Long pendant necklaces

These thin silver or gold necklaces made with link or ball chains are adorned with a pendant or charm and hang low. The ideal length will depend on the length of your torso and your body shape. Thin women with smaller chests can wear necklaces that stop right at the breast, while curvier women tend to look better with long necklaces that stop just past the breast bone (with the added benefit of an elongating effect!).

Styles: Long necklaces should always form the top layer of your outfit. They go well with collared shirts, simple t-shirts with round necklines, turtlenecks, and of course tops and jackets with higher necklines for the perfect layer look.

Statement necklaces

These necklaces tend to be colliers; otherwise, they usually only go as far as the top of your neckline. You can’t miss these bold eye-catchers, as they’re often adorned with large gems, costly edging or bright colors – or everything at once! They tend to appear rather massive and bulky – all the things you need to make a statement! You won’t need any other jewelry to go with this look.

Styles: These necklaces go great with low-key clothing that won’t steal the show. It’s best to wear them against bare skin, although they’re allowed to touch the fabric of your top or even overlap slightly. They go well with v-neck shirts and tops, party dresses, jackets with classic lapels, and corsets or teddy’s.

The golden rule(s): Necklaces for women are typical divas: It’s best to keep them separate and let them stand alone center-stage. Tangled necklaces that slip and hang are an absolute no-go! And since the exception proves the rule, it’s OK to wear two charm necklaces simultaneously. Statement necklaces should always be worn alone; diamond colliers, too, shine brightest as solo performers.

Necklaces for women draw attention to your décolletage and give your neck a lovely shape.
