Reebok Shoes Throughout The Years

It’s no surprise that Reebok is one of the true innovators in the sneaker scene. Their long commitment to creating high-quality and comfortable shoes makes them a worldwide trusted brand. And that’s why we believe Reebok is worth learning a little bit more about.

Brush up on your sneaker history and learn how Reebok became a key player throughout the years.

Spikers (1895)

J.W. Fosters and Sons (now known as Reebok) was one of the first in the market to create the popular running shoe that still exists today. Founder Joseph William was part of many running races and wanted to make a shoe that increased his speed. That’s when the spike running shoe was born, a lace-up sneaker with metal spikes screwed onto the soles.

Expanding The Market (1979)

Reebok was not part of the U.S shoe market until a man known as Paul Fireman came along. He saw great potential in the brand and quickly helped expand it to North America while introducing three new running shoes. Reebok is now a worldwide enterprise dedicated in customizing every shoe to high-quality and comfort.

The Pump (1989)

In this year, Reebok made a historic boom that changed the shoe industry forever. The invention of The Pump was something no one had ever seen before. The sneaker featured an air pumped sole that allowed for a customized fit. This marked the beginning of the advanced technology we see in the industry today.

NBA Endorsements (1996)

After great success, Reebok needed another way to come back so they looked to the courts. A contract with NBA player Allen Inverson led to a new shoe known as, “The Answer.” This sneaker sold fast and helped make Reebok a key player in the shoe market once again.

The ‘New’ Pump (2005)

The ATR (Above The Rim) Pump was based off the same technology as the original Pump but instead the pump was placed on the outer ankle of the shoe. NBA superstars helped with the debut and it became a must-have shoe.
