Do’s and Don’ts of Wearing Sleeveless Shirts

A sleeveless shirt is good for more than just pumping iron at the gym. But it also comes with a few guidelines to keep in mind should you venture from the weight room to the office or bar with bare arms. When it comes to these tops, we’ve got a few tricks up our sleeves for your styling peruse.

Don’t:

If you can wear it to the gym, don’t wear it to work. While it’s great to let your guns breathe, some sleeveless tops reveal a bit too much in the torso area that is not be appropriate in a professional setting.

Do:

To avoid chatting with the boss with your pecks hanging out, try a button-down sleeveless top that has a collar and is not too loose in the arm area. It’s close enough to a regular collared shirt to be work appropriate. Plus, no one will know the difference if you throw on a chunky cardigan.

Don’t:

Your sleeveless tee shouldn’t be tight to the point everyone can tell what you had for dinner.

Do:

Make sure your shirt allows enough room to let your skin breath. Try donning a graphic tee with a chain necklace, a studded belt and skinny jeans for a relaxed and edgy rockstar get-up.

Don’t:

Don’t shy away from layering and accessorizing with your sleeveless top. It may be a fun wardrobe staple when it’s too hot to wear anything else. But due to the shirt’s simplicity, letting it stand alone could make your outfit a bit one dimensional.

Do:

Try layering your shirt over a regular T-shirt with jeans and combat boots or birkenstocks. Keep it preppy by fastening the buttons of your stop or go for suave by leaving the buttons undone. Either way, the shirt-under-vest look adds depth to your style.

Sleeveless shirts can at first seem tricky to wear because they aren’t traditional. Start with a basic white sleeveless and try working your way up from there.

Don’t be shy. Accentuate those biceps with one of these sleeveless shirts.
