Striped clothing has long been a fashion staple, and rightly so. From a pin stripe shirt to a sailor-stripe dress, you can never have enough flattering little lines in your closet. But no collection of stripes is complete without our favorite transitional layering piece: the striped sweater.

Floral
Floral patterns are obviously appropriate for spring, but we think that they can add color and cheer year-round. Let a collared shirt with small floral prints peek out from your striped sweater. Just make sure that you either choose your stripes in versatile blacks, navys, whites and grays, or coordinate the color scheme of your shirt and sweater.
Polka Dot
Go for a chic monochrome outfit that’s so much more than just solid black or white. When you’re pairing two classic patterns like polka dots and stripes, pay attention to the size of the patterns so that your look doesn’t become an eyesore.
