Wear with Care: How to Handle Black North Face Jackets

North Face jackets in deep black are one of the best pieces you can wear when the temperature drops. With the dark hue, accidental food stains and specks of dirt are hardly visible. However, that doesn’t mean you should neglect your black North face jacket and let it go uncleaned.

Here are a few ways to take care of your inky North Face Jacket so that it lasts for years on end.

Wash Away the Salt

Whenever you’re dealing with snow or ice, it’s often melted by a special salt that is sprinkled on the ground. However, as you make your way through the frozen tundra in your North Face jacket, you end up getting some of it on you. And when your coat is dark as night, the white salt easily shows up. Remove it from your coat with a dilute mixture of water and vinegar. Take a cloth, wet it with the solution and wipe it over the affected areas.

Patch Up Tears

As you’re constantly wearing your North Face jacket, you find that little nicks and tears begin to show up. Smaller cuts can be easily handled with the use of a needle and thread, but larger holes are a bit of a bigger issue. Wide-open tears mean dislodged white feathers that stick to your black jacket—not a good look. When this happens, a fabric repair tape will keep the feather bleed in check. In the long run, a trip to a seamstress will permanently seal the hole.

Prevent Dirt Build-Up

Most North Face jackets are designed with a water-repellent coating on the outside of the jacket. However, as you continually wear your jacket and experience different types of weather patterns and stains, the coating begins to wear down from build-up. This is why it is extremely important to properly wash your jacket. Slip it into the washing machine with detergent and put it on two rinse cycles to ensure that all the soap is rinsed off. Finally, air dry in an area away from the sun so that the rays don’t fade the color.

Just because your black North Face hides imperfections doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do your best to take care of it. Follow these tips and you’re bound to have your jacket for many winters.
