TikTok loves slugging: What to know about the skincare trend
There is very little on the internet that we love more than a TikTok beauty trend. The app taught us a colourful graphic eyeliner hack that saves time and money, brought soap brows into the spotlight, and most recently, introduced us to the slugging/glass skin trend.
If you’re a TikTok regular with a penchant for skincare, the slugging trend has likely made an appearance on your For You page.
What is slugging?
To achieve the “glass skin” look, TikTok beauty aficionados recommend “slugging” your face. Slugging involves putting a thin layer of Vaseline or other petrolatum-based product on clean skin overnight to prevent moisture loss.
According to some skincare experts, slugging can help to repair skin damage by creating a moist environment in which your skin’s barrier can heal and repair.

On TikTok, the hashtag #slugging has racked up more than 460 million views, with fans praising it as their secret to flawless, glass-like skin.
While Vaseline is perhaps the most famous slugging product, CeraVe’s equally as affordable Healing Ointment has also made the go-to product rounds.
According to Stylight data, the CeraVe brand has seen an 89 percent increase in clicks compared to last year, and the K-beauty brand COSRX, famous for its “glass skin” products, has seen a similar jump of 85 percent.
